I recently finished taking Janelle’s ten week course. This class was life changing: the information and knowledge shared was extremely impactful not only because of the content itself, but the manner in which Janelle curated and planned the curriculum. The specificity, detail, and care she put into organizing the flow of her classes so that all of the information could be digested and build upon itself was incredible. The environment and atmosphere that Janelle creates for her classes is a space in which everyone feels welcome, vulnerable, and empowered. I had such a great time sharing experiences and learning from other members of the class as we connected and got to know one another. By the end of the ten week course, I can confidently say that my lense in which I look through to go about my forward trajectory in life has changed To see more clearly, and I feel my heart has opened as a result of Janelles patience to make sure everyone could connect to her class in their own unique way. I highly recommend this course for anyone, and the seeds of change planted in this course were given the right amount of care to fully grow and take root For lasting change.

Thank you, Janelle, for pouring into countless communities with a heart committed to social justice and humanity. It’s not often that one is able to engage in classes dedicated to enlightening people about social justice, oppressive origins, and how to take action in improving American society. Thank you for offering classes in unapologetic transparency; agency; and in in-depth, meaningful, and dire conversations. Your classes create an atmosphere in which all walks of life feel welcome to share their realities, as well as collectively dialogue about how to implement meaningful, effective social change. Not only are your classes enlightening, but you can’t help but to leave motivated to actively contribute towards change. Thank you for creating such a space, and for empowering your students with an efficacy that encourages each and every one of us to contribute towards the necessary advancement of social justice. I’m feeling so full, yet authentically empowered to contribute towards the wellness of humanity.

Janelle-

I am blown away by your heart, your light and your unwavering activism. I am also so deeply moved by your ability to create a platform for learning that is predicated on a growth mindset, enabling your students to be raw, honest and deeply vulnerable. Thank you for being such a generous and inspiring teacher and for creating a space where people can fumble and evolve. We all benefit profoundly from your style of leadership, your passion and your sense of justice. Thank you for creating this course and for sharing your knowledge and your heart, week after week. I’m grateful to know you and to grow with you.

With deepest respect and gratitude,

Karis

Studying social justice and contemplating what the experience of living in America is like for black people is not enough without frank discussion in a group such as this. Janelle has so much knowledge and prepares so diligently and thoughtfully for all of our classes. I am so grateful for the chance to be part of her classes!

Janelle is a truly passionate educator who has created a safe, open space for discussion– no matter how difficult the topic. I’ve participated in two classes so far (“Defunding the Police” and “Housing Discrimination”), and Janelle’s historical knowledge and powerful insights on the issues were beyond eye-opening. I’m already bringing what I’ve learned into conversations with my family, my friends, and my kids. I highly recommend this forum for anyone who wants to better educate themselves about our country’s history of systemic racism, and begin the work to break its cycle.
